Overview:
The HSS Orthopedics Now program provides consistent, immediate access for patients 12 years and older with an undiagnosed musculoskeletal injury or sudden onset of pain to be triaged, receive an initial diagnosis, and if appropriate, quickly connected to the right subspecialized level of care.
The HSS Orthopedics Now Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) sees patients at HSS Stamford to triage, diagnose, treat, and when needed, refer patients to a higher level of care in an expedited timeframe.
The NP/PA sees patients independently, in collaboration with, and with the support of HSS physicians. The NP/PA is an advanced practice provider who is licensed to practice medicine and provides a full range or primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services. The NP/PA is responsible for diagnosing and treating acute musculoskeletal injuries including, but not limited to:
- Bone, joint, or muscle injuries
- Strains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fractures
- Painful, swollen, or injured joints
- Back and neck pain
- Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Pediatric injuries (12 years of age and older)
- Sports Injuries
- Steroid injections and joint aspirations
- General bracing and splinting
