The Inpatient Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (IP Onc APP) for the resident service is a nurse practitioner or certified physician assistant who evaluates and medically manages oncology inpatients at the University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake (UWMC-ML). The IP Onc APP:
- Provides care to patients admitted to the hospital for evaluation and management of a new malignant diagnosis; administration of chemotherapy; and for the management of side effects of therapy, their underlying malignant disease, and/or other concurrent illness(es).
- Assesses and manages the medical needs of oncology inpatients, addresses treatment toxicities, performs procedures and consults with professional colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary team, and works collaboratively with outpatient treatment teams to coordinate care of their patients.
- Works collaboratively with attending physicians to assist and teach trainees (students, residents, and fellows) in the care of oncology inpatients.
- All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice and institutional privileges and are under the supervision of an attending physician.
