The chief nursing officer for England has been appointed as a trustee of a hospice, it has been announced.
Duncan Burton has been appointed to the role at the Princess Alice Hospice, which provides end-of-life care to thousands of people across Surrey, south west London and Middlesex.

Mr Burton had previously supported the Princess Alice Hospice as a voluntary committee adviser, providing personal and professional insights to the organisation.
Speaking about his appointment, he said: “I am delighted to be appointed as a trustee at Princess Alice Hospice.
“As a committee advisor, I have already seen the enormous difference that nursing and other colleagues make to patients and their loved ones.
“The expert, compassionate care they provide at the hospice and in people’s homes is vital.”
Mr Burton praised the difference that had been made by the “amazing volunteers” at the organisation.
He added: “The positive impact that their support has for patients, families and colleagues highlights the vital role of volunteering across health and care, and in local communities.
“My thanks go to all colleagues and volunteers at Princess Alice Hospice, and I look forward to continuing to support your work in my role as a trustee.”
Sally Harris, the chair of trustees at the Princess Alice Hospice, said: “It’s exciting to have Duncan’s experience and input on our board.
“Duncan’s contribution is already being felt, as he ensures that nursing excellence remains a key focus for us.
“I’ve been so impressed by his commitment to the role already, as we work to deliver the highest levels of compassionate care to local people.’’
Meanwhile, Nigel Seymour, chief executive of the hospice, said: “Duncan’s professional experience and successes are well documented and will help us continue to deliver the highest levels of practice in palliative and end-of-life nursing.
“More broadly, I look forward to Duncan’s strategic contribution and insight into our work to reach underserved communities and reduce the level of unmet need in our care area.’’
