The Security Officer II is the primary responders for all safety concerns, security incidents and service request at facilities owned or occupied by Seattle Children’s in the departments efforts to deter, detect, prevent, respond, and document concerns or incidents that risk the safety and well-being of patients, families, visitors, workforce members, and property by utilizing appropriate protocols, emergency response procedures, and/or non-violent crisis intervention methods.
Security Officers in this position respond to situations that include but are not limited to fire emergencies, hazardous spills, disaster response, medical emergencies, safety support, missing child, active shooter, bomb threats, individuals under distress or escalated, unauthorized persons on Seattle Children’s property or buildings occupied by Seattle Children’s workforce members with intentions to commit crimes such as vandalism, theft, and assault.
• Perform security protocols, procedures, and standard work processes in assigned roles/areas of responsibility to ensure that overall environmental safety and optimal customer service is provided for all patients, families, staff, and visitors with EDI, de-escalation – and equity being primary considerations in all departmental safety efforts.
• Identify Environmental hazards while conducting Interior/Exterior Patrols and Safety Risk Assessments at assigned buildings that pose a safety risk or environmental concern.
• Utilize and demonstrate a solution focused approach to all challenges.
• Support operational needs such as call-taking, customer service, dispatching, incident support, and real-time CCTV review. Perform investigations utilizing critical thinking, information gathering, interviewing witnesses and all persons involved, CCTV, badge activity audits, and other available resources/tools to confirm/determine events that took place, identify individuals involved regarding theft, property damage, injuries, etc. Document all incidents in report system.
• Collaborate with external departments to assess, evaluate, update, and implement streamline processes to support information that result in reduced errors and improved communication/services between Seattle Children’s, community emergency responders, and patients/families.
• Performs Administrative duties: attendance and participation in the department’s huddles. Attends department meetings. Participate in in-service learning activities. Provide support for various projects within the organization. Implement CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) processes into daily work routine; complete annual safety and competency review. Participate in department disaster plan.
• Conduct and document monthly drills to prepare Seattle Children’s workforce members to respond appropriately and protect themselves in the event of a Weopon/Active Shooter Hostage Situation and Bomb Threat or Suspicious Package situation.
