Resident Nurse – RN – Residency Program (May 2024 Cohort)
Join us as part of Seattle Children’s one-year RN Residency program!
A Nurse Resident is a registered staff nurse who has worked less than one year and has been hired into the Residency Program. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described in the Job Summary, the Nurse Resident will participate in didactic training, leadership development, mentoring, and teamwork to support transition into practice.
Through direct mentorship and shadow experiences, as a Nurse Resident you will engage your pediatric curriculum and patient care orientation to help you develop into a pediatric nurse. We invite you to apply to our next cohort that begins on Monday, April 29, 2024!
The RN Residency Program is one year in length and focuses on preparing each new graduate for their role as a pediatric nurse.
Seattle Children’s Nurse Residency Program strives to:

- Support professional well-being throughout the transition into pediatric nursing practice.
- Promote professional development, an ongoing spirit of clinical inquiry and integration of evidence-based practice.

Program components:
As a new graduate nurse at Seattle Children’s, your transition into nursing practice will include:
- Pediatric curriculum that includes various learning modalities
- Patient care orientation with a nurse preceptor
- Participation in an evidence-based project under the guidance of an experienced nurse leader
- Evaluation of new graduate nurse competency
- Ongoing support by nursing leaders
- Mentorship by an experienced nurse

- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Please Note:
- Most departments will have full-time positions available (36-40 hours per week).
- Available shifts will vary depending on the needs of the department. We have the following shifts available: night shift, evening shift, day shift, day/evening and day/night rotating shifts.
You will be able to select your top two departments in the application. You will also be asked to explain why you are interested in those departments. Job Description:
As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children’s policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. Nurses may be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.
